Today, I was feeling very sad and insecure about my appearance. I thought my boyfriend could help cheer me up, so I asked him if he thought I was pretty. He very delicately and politely told me that he's never seen me as pretty. FML

As someone who is insecure, I'm sure your boyfriend is with you for a reason. He probably should have used better words or explained better but I find everyone beautiful. Even people who are considered "hideous". Flaws are sexy and embrace that shit. Try to boost your confidence because that's what is really sexy.

"We hate it" - Uh what? Who are you? Stop being sad, be happy. Stop being anxious, be calm. Stop ... Stop.. Dude.. It does not work. You do realize that if it was in her hands, she would choose to BE confident? Do you think most people CHOOSE to feel like shit? No! It's the result of their experiences and upbringing. It's not as simple as "stop". Also, it doesn't matter what "we" believes. You don't live for society, you live for yourself. So constructive advice would be more helpful for OP!

well you ran into that one. But in seriousness, he could've at least been nicer.

I've always hated these "In all seriousness" comments. Almost every time, there will be some unfunny or boring statement, then an extremely generic response after. I just don't see the point in them.

He is saying what he believes in the most honest way

Well your beautiful on the inside and thats wat matters

Ayone else want to make a feel-good assumption about someone they don't know sht about?

At least he was honest... Sorry about your situation OP...

Maybe not pretty, but perhaps he sees you as cute :)

Stop being insecure. We hate it. Learn to be confident. It's much better. Pink isn't a pretty pop star, but she's confident and sexy.

Stop telling us what to do. We do not live to please you and dont give half a shit what you like. Not to mention you are generalizing and clumping your own gender's members into a mass pool of "we dont like this". Who are "we"? You and what army? While we women should work on self confidence for their own mental wellbeing, we don't have to do jack shit to please anyone else unless we choose so.

I agree #8. Everyone is beautiful and there is no specific beauty. What really matters is personality.

I Mean, if you really think about it what could he say? If he said you have never looked more beautiful in your life, and you take that negatively then that's your own fault. Give the guy a break.

The things is that it seems as if the BF said he's never found OP pretty- no follow up comment saying he found her hot/cute, whatever. To be frank, it shouldn't be a mind breaking stretch to say "I find you attractive" to someone that your dating who is having some anxiety.

Unless that was followed up with "you're gorgeous/beautiful", I hope you meant "ex bf". He doesn't deserve you.

personally for me ive never been attracted to someone based on their physical looks. so I have dated people that others would call "ugly" but I don't see physical appearance when I'm with someone I see their character so I've never thought of my significant other as pretty or handsome. I think they are beautiful because beauty comes from within. I hope he meant it on a more positive note because that's how I would mean it. I'm sorry that you were feeling insecure but honestly the only way your insecurity will truly go away is by your own actions and words not someone else's. All the best with your relationship thoo!
