Today, I overheard my ripped, handsome, genetically perfect brother telling my mom how "fat people" make him "nervous". I have only recently accepted my weight, after struggling for years. I now understand why my brother rarely talks to me. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Classic Mom moment
Today, I went to my parents' house. I recently lost about 30 lbs. My mom hugged me and said, "Aww, you're not my chubby baby girl anymore." She then said she wished I were still fat because she missed it. She's the reason I lost the weight; she used to tease and taunt me. Thanks Mom. FML
Today, after weeks, I've finally reached my goal and lost 10 lbs. My sister got jealous about me losing weight, and told my parents and coworkers that I'm anorexic. Hello, intervention. FML
My body, my choice
Today, I had to sit and listen in mortification as my mother tearfully told our therapist how much sleep she loses over my being morbidly obese. She doesn't seem to care that I'm body positive and happy with the way I am. FML
My brother, the asshole
Today, I introduced my girlfriend to my family. My brother insulted her weight so many times she left in tears. Not only does he not understand why what he did was wrong, he’s genuinely livid with me for being upset with him, to the point that he damn near slugged me when I confronted him. FML
Today, I saw my uncle after six months. The first thing he says to me is, 'I didn't even recognize you! You've gained so much weight.' Gee thanks uncle. Just what I wanted to hear. FML
Looks
Today, my mom and dad were talking about how if I lost weight, I would be attractive and have guys all over me. My dad said, “That’s exactly what I’m worried about.” It took me a while to realize they both think I’m ugly. FML
Today, after months of exercise and diets and finally reaching my ideal weight, I told my morbidly obese cousin about my success, hoping to motivate him to do the same. He replied, "Why would it matter, you're still ugly." FML
Today, I was on the phone with my little sister as she explained that all these guys like her now that she's so skinny and beautiful. My mom must have overheard me tell my sister that at least I was a cuter child, because my mom laughed and said, "Yeah right, we had to buy you fat kid diapers." FML
These people are the worst
Today, my brother wore a T-shirt to my birthday party that said "I dig skinny chicks". I'm a recovering anorexic and told him that I didn't really like his shirt. His response? "Don't let the liberal media brainwash you into thinking it's OK to be fat." FML
Today, while having dinner with my boyfriend's family, his mom told me that it looks like I've gained quite some weight. When my boyfriend told her that this was a rude thing to say, she said it wasn't rude, just the truth. FML

don't let your brother get you down, OP. if you want to lose weight, do so for you.

I think you should approach him and ask him about his reasons for avoiding you. Don't assume it is because of your weight. You might be mistaken, and it could make you more insecure about your body.

Sounds like he has more issues than you do...we all need to be ourselves

It sounds like OP has tried what everyone says he should do. He did mention he has struggled for years. What comes easy, or what you think is easy to do, is not the case. I am thin myself, but I have seen my mom struggle with weight. She has tried everything. Never being able to get her weight down has been depressing for her. She does not eat sweets, except at birthdays, then it is seriously like a bite. She does eat her fruits and vegetables more than meat. I honestly don't care what she looks like as long as she is healthy.

Tough brotherly love...

He does realize that he's not going to stay like that forever. 15 years later he could be claiming that ripped, handsome people uncomforting.

I would not worry what other people think. just be OK with yourself when people make statments. like that it's just showing how stupid they are

Please, don't you ever, ever let someone else make you feel bad about your body. No-one's 'genetically perfect'. For example it sounds like he's a real twat. Whilst you're clearly a strong person who has successfully battled their self-esteem issues thus far. Don't let that shallow idiot get to you.

I'm sure your brother loves you no matter what. Family is family :)

You know what, don't worry about your brother. You've accepted your weight, if you're too much over weight then change it but if you're comfortable just live your life happily.

Your brother is a dick, OP. Fat people make him nervous? Well people like him make me mad. Not everyone can be perfectly skinny, and some struggle with their weight due to health issues they can't control. Granted a lot of people are just lazy and pig out on junk food, but a lot of people can't help their weight. Your brother has no right to judge people, fat or not. You just keep your chin up and stay happy. If you've accepted your weight, good for you! Don't let your stupid brother get to you.

Wow even to his own sister?
