Today, I was let go at work. About 2 years ago, we had hired an eager-to-learn "assistant" for me. When they canned me, they let me know that I should've trained him faster so I could've been fired sooner. FML

You should have “trained” him wrong and have him fired for incompetence and insubordination. Job security is #1.

Sorry to be harsh, but I get the feeling they were only being nice to keep you on for those 2 years. Maybe it's time for some self reflection.

Thing is, if OP was horrible or doing the job wrong, why did they let him train his eventual replacement?
