I'd say you got your money's worth. There are no more enduring learning experiences than those gained from colossal fuck-ups. My "A-ha" moment with the Celsius temperature scale came from when I thought it was OK for me to stick my hand in a water bath that was 50°C. That made me hit the high note from "Take On Me."
