Today, I came into work feeling good about myself and my upcoming plans. I left before noon with a box of my belongings and uncertainty about my future, having been suddenly laid off. FML
I'm sorry to hear that op. We just had a recent lay off and it makes me mad that they knew 3 months in advance but didn't tell anyone anything. It's upsetting that they are able to tell you the last possible moment, but if you want to quit you have to give them a 2 weeks notice out of courtesy. This is what's wrong with company's I hope you find something soon to keep you going for a while

It's sad and true. But as a person that has his own company, I can tell you if you extend the courtesy and tell them a couple months beforehand that they'll be laid off. Their work performance drastically drops and they don't give a shit anymore. At that point they are just wasting your time and money.
Reading this flickered the forgetten memories of being laid off myself. The job of my lifetime just struck an iceberg and nobody knew except the top people. Financially, it was devastating. I wouldn't wish this upon anyone and am so sorry. You don't think about breathing because you can breath just fine. The less you think about breathing the least it bothers you, until you can't breath. Money is the same way. Best of wishes, hope all comes around. Years down the road I hope you look back and think, "I forgot about being laid off."
