Today, after my first day at work at a local daycare, I found out that I'm not entitled to breaks because I'm the only worker there who doesn't smoke. My boss asked me, ''What do you need a break for?'' FML

Report him. You're just as entitled to a break as everyone else.

We reported my boss and he have us, the people who don't smoke, "cell phone breaks" we clock out and can do whatever we won't for a half hour. It's awesome! Haha

Why does so many people at a daycare smoke?

Legally if you work more than 4 hours they have to give you a break. (It may be different per state but hope the info helps)

In MA where I am i believe it's over 5 hours...that's messed up though. I'm a smoker, and I don't believe that you shouldn't get a break to go out side for a little fresh air, or sit down for 5/10 mins

I guess he thinks that non-smokers don't have bladders. Or bowels.

Ugh that happened to me when I worked at a nursing home. We were always understaffed and the everyone else got breaks so they could take out the residents who smoked so they could smoke with them. Ridiculous. I tried complaining to my boss and she literally left in the middle of me telling her to take a smoke break too.

That's illegal they have to legally give you a break

I don't know about Ireland but where I am in Connecticut, you're required a 10-15 minute break for every couple of hours and if you work six or more hours you get a 30 minute break.
