Today, my so-called feminist daughter somehow found out I briefly worked as a prostitute when she was a teenager, and has stopped speaking to me. I haven’t the heart to tell her it was the only way I could afford to send her to college. FML

Yikes. It always hurts to see someone drink the SWERF koolaid but it must hurt even worse when that person is your own daughter. I’m so sorry. That said I feel like if you can, you SHOULD tell her exactly why you went into that work. It’s important for her to learn and recognize that hey, adult workers have lives and bills to pay too, and enough money to live is miles better than no money.

You can be honest with her and not go into detail about everything that you did. Explain to her that there are different levels of prostitution, and sometimes we as adults make choices based on what we are able to do and what tools we have at the time. Explain to her that just because you did that then does not mean that is everything of who you are and tell her that you did it because you thought that was your only choice in how to get what you needed at the time. I think that if you try telling her that it was for her so that she could go to college she might in turn resent her college degree to extent, or she may think you are trying to project your issues on her, and telling her that the only reason why you even got into prostitution was so that she could go to college.

she'll go to college and learn what a true feminist is

Hey, OP, tell her you think she's right, and that you're no longer going to support her college career with "dirty money" and that she can handle it herself with her principles intact. Then see if she's a hypocrite or not.
