Today, I lost my job due to the coronavirus. I have no way to pay my bills and very few places are hiring just now. My boss tried to make me feel better by saying her husband was just laid off and they'll struggle as well. She has a £120k salary and just got a £30k bonus. Apparently, "we're in the same boat." FML

Right now £1 = $1.25, so her salary is really $150,000! They can be in the same boat. Have you ever been on a cruise ship? The best suites are much, much better than where the crew has to bunk. Obviously, the ex-boss isn't in the OP's rowboat.

While it’s awful to be in that predicament, you never know what she’s paying off. Maybe her mortgage matches her salary? Maybe they lived to lavishly and have no savings? While that would be on them, they would still be struggling as well. It’s not a time to play “who has it worse.” Everyone is struggling on some level.
