Today, it's the 11th anniversary of my dog's adoption, who died a few months ago. I miss her and can’t stop crying. I’m very sick and don’t know if I’ll ever be fit to have a dog again. Loneliness sucks big time. FML

Today, I've been crying on a regular basis because I know one day my dog will die. He’s a completely healthy and happy dog, I just can’t accept how short his life will be and the fact that he’ll probably die before me. FML

Today, I held my 14 year-old dog as he passed away. He made me a better person and I spent more time with him and loved him more than 99% of the population. I don't know how I'm going to do tomorrow when I dig his grave, and know he's not with me anymore. FML

Today, my kids got me a dog to replace the dog who died last year. I don’t like dogs, our old dog was my deceased wife’s dog, and I never liked it. I cared for the dog until it died of old age and fully intended to never get another one. Now I have a hyperactive puppy destroying my house. FML

Today, my best friend decided to get herself a new puppy. My dog passed away last week. She named it the same name and got the same breed as mine was. She sees nothing wrong and can’t understand why I’m upset. In fact, she tells me to “stop being a Debbie Downer.” FML

If you don’t think you’ll be able to adopt right now, consider volunteering at a shelter to help socialize the animals. It makes them more adoptable and will help you fill the void your fur baby left behind.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I'm familiar with that pain a few times over. I'm also sick, but an older rescue cat or dog might be the perfect fit for you. A cat might be less work for you if you're less than mobile. I met a nurse 3 days ago who rescued 2 guinea pig brothers. Just call up your local humane society and they'll help match you with the perfect pet. I sincerely hope this helps, feeling lonely sucks!!

volunteering, even one day a week is a great idea. I'm a shelter volunteer and after i lost my 18 year old sweetie that I rescued at 6 months old it really helped. it won't take away the pain but it will help. you have a lot of love to share.
