Today, my father decided to "prepare" me for the real world by telling me that I'm ugly. FML

Today, I told my parents I wanted to try modelling. I thought that since I have such a low self-esteem, that it might benefit me, and make me feel better about myself and how I look. The first thing out of my dad's mouth was, "What? Why? You're ugly." Thanks dad. FML
Today, my grandfather told me that I was ugly. When my mom found out, she said that, "Old people are allowed to tell the truth." FML
Today, I talked to my father for the first time in several years. I proudly told him that I have been attending Beauty School. He looked me up and down and said, "Doesn't look like you've learned much." FML
Today, I was at a restaurant when I heard a young girl telling her father she didn't think she was pretty. When I got up to leave, I walked past her table and told her she was beautiful. Her dad then punched me in the face. FML
Today, my drunk dad told me I'm smart enough that any guy could overlook the fact that I'm fat, but not smart enough that they could overlook how ugly I am. Gee, thanks. FML
Today, feeling very self-conscious about my looks, I told my mom I felt ugly and wished I could be as beautiful as her. She only said, "Yeah, I'm pretty, I wonder what happened to you." FML
Today, my mom and dad were talking about how if I lost weight, I would be attractive and have guys all over me. My dad said, “That’s exactly what I’m worried about.” It took me a while to realize they both think I’m ugly. FML
Today, my dad stopped me mid-sentence and said he wanted to punch me in the face and set me on fire for using the word "selfie". FML
Today, my dad told me that I'm a weak and negative person because I suffer from depression and anxiety, then he told me to just snap out of it. FML
Today, I asked my mom if I was ugly. She said, "Ask your girlfriend." I said I didn't have one. She said "Exactly." FML

Did it ever cross your mind that maybe he was preparing you for "the real world", not by his words, but by example? Whether his statement is true is irrelevant - the lesson was to not let statements like that get to you. That you complained about it just proved that you're not.

You know, most of the time, I look kind of like a fighter, almost threatening, but a little grooming and I clean up nice. I look civilized. For a girl, makeup can do wonders. Just a little, not a lot. Try to go for the natural look, OP.

that's kinda not true, research shows that attractive people are more likable, on average have a higher salary, have to do less for it, and are happier FYI

Being "attractive" isn't 100% based on appearance. Personalities play a huge role.

Not true. I've seen incredibly insecure attractive people, and incredibly confident "ugly" (or at the very least, awkwardly unique) people. There are more of those than you think.

Yeah, my point is these are adults (and some teenagers) I'm talking about. Appearance matters no matter how old you are. If you're insecure, you're more than likely always going to be insecure even in adulthood. You're still going to care about how you look, sometimes to an unnecessary degree. TL;DR: Age doesn't matter and doesn't make a difference.
