Today, I went to go meet my boyfriend at a restaurant to tell him it just wasn't working out. Before I could do so, he proposed. I had to tell him no, so he started to cry and ran out. Everyone looked at me like some kind of monster. FML

Today, I went to my girlfriend's house to break up with her. It was a hard decision and both of us became quite emotionally overwhelmed at the time. We began to hug as a final goodbye, then her mum burst in the room and yelled, "HE FINALLY PROPOSED!" FML

Am I the only one that finds it odd how often this kind of thing happens? Where somebody wants the relationship to end and the other person wants to get married? If somebody is going to break up with you, wouldn't there be at least some signs ahead of time? Wouldn't things be going downhill? Maybe it's just me, but I'm always kind of surprised at how many people there are who propose to somebody who is about to break up with them, and the person proposing seems to have no idea that their partner was about to end things.

zBLAKEz, the same thing happened to me actually. I was trying to end a relationship, my ex panicked and tried to insist that we needed to get married to "save" the relationship.

How long were you feeling that way? If you were feeling like the relationship was going nowhere you should have said something earlier and avoided this awkward situation you are now in. I am sorry op. You should always be honest with yourself if your not honest with yourself how can you be honest with someone else? I give you the benefit of the doubt and probably didn't know he was going to propose to you but I guess just try and move on. Sorry op.
