Today, I was looking forward to languishing on the beach for a few days of a “much needed vacation” when I literally got called back into work on my way to the beach. FML

They better have a damn good reason for me to cancel and return...I would make it clear I will be expecting a compensation for this. If it were family leave, I'd be having a chat with HR.

Tell them that when you booked your vacation time it wasn't a request, it was notice. You are now unavailable abd not on call, and they'll have to make do until your scheduled return.
