Pretty sure he could have been "respectful" and done the firing in person before or after the vacation. Calling someone in like that just to fire them in person is inane. If there was somehow a "need to fire you RIGHT NOW" emergency, a phone call would be less disrespectful.
I also suggest going to HR and reporting that he made you come to work on a vacation day, in order to fire you. If they're paid vacation days or you are given so many a year, and your vacation would have fallen in that allowance, it sounds like he's trying
The exact same thing happened to me several years ago. Got called in, then got called into the bosses office and got laid-off. He claimed the company was losing too much each quarter and had to cut back staff. He was telling me this as his brand-new Mercedes sat right outside his office window. Sorry you're out of work, but you're probably better off than to continue to work for a prick like your boss showed to be. Good luck OP
