Well damn, OP. At least your boss wanted to do it in person rather than over the phone or text. At least that shows you that he/she respects you enough for the face-to-face. Also... you get to have some hard-earned vacation days now.

Pretty sure he could have been "respectful" and done the firing in person before or after the vacation. Calling someone in like that just to fire them in person is inane. If there was somehow a "need to fire you RIGHT NOW" emergency, a phone call would be less disrespectful.

They fired you, so you're entitled to unemployment benefits, when you are actively job searching and meet the other conditions. I suggest taking at least a few days of rest before you start the filing for unemployment and job search process. I also suggest going to HR and reporting that he made you come to work on a vacation day, in order to fire you. If they're paid vacation days or you are given so many a year, and your vacation would have fallen in that allowance, it sounds like he's trying

The exact same thing happened to me several years ago. Got called in, then got called into the bosses office and got laid-off. He claimed the company was losing too much each quarter and had to cut back staff. He was telling me this as his brand-new Mercedes sat right outside his office window. Sorry you're out of work, but you're probably better off than to continue to work for a prick like your boss showed to be. Good luck OP

Would you rather a text, email, call break up from the company or in person, OP? But what an inconvenience.
Hey, at least you've got a bunch of vacation days now!
Lawyer up
This happened to my dad. Except they send a registered letter and my brother signed for it. He didn't find out till get got back.
