"Where the hell is my expensive and thoughtful gift and where are you taking me to dinner?"
Dump him.
While we all want to be remembered and loved, not everyone is good at remembering dates. Personally I have such dates on my computer calendar with them set to remind me a week ahead of time. And my wife also reminds me of her birthday and our anniversary a week or more ahead of time. If your boyfriend has a problem remembering dates like this, remind him a week in advance so he has the opportunity to get a card and present. By the way, “hints” don’t count, you have to say something like my birthday is coming up on XXX. If it’s just YOUR birthday that he forgets and especially if you did remind him of that beforehand, then that’s a different situation. Like Dear Abby used to frequently say once upon a time ask yourself if you are better off with or without him. No one can make that judgement but you. But I personally wouldn’t throw out a relationship just because my partner forgot my birthday or wasn’t sufficiently excited enough in wishing me happy birthday. Birthdays are once a year, how are things the other 364 days?
My ex husband ignored my bday one year, so when his came around i did the same (i assumed bdays weren't a big deal anymore). I've never seen a full-grown adult throw such a tantrum. There's no reason, in today's calendar reminders in your pocket, to forget an important date
