Contact the local landlord/tenant board and make a complaint. You should not have to pay rent for the duration that you did not have a kitchen, bathroom or windows. Even one of those things missing would constitute an unlivable domain and therefore your landlord is to make other living arrangements (or pay for) for you while construction is happening; however, since this has already happened, you should be compensated by not having to pay for 5 weeks worth of rent and recuperate any extraneous costs you incurred due to the renovation (ie: if you had to stay at a hotel or missed work hours because of this situation). It is beyond unreasonable to believe someone should have to live, unwillingly through and unprepared for, such construction.
well said.
5 weeks is 35 days. Are you sure the landlord didn't say "35 days" and with your wishful thinking, you heard "three-to-five" days?
