Today, after being dumped by my boyfriend of two years, I poured my heart out to my dad. He nodded and looked sympathetic throughout. Afterwards, I asked him what I should do. He replied, "How the hell should I know?" and awkwardly left my room. FML

Today, I went to my father for advice. I've been seeing a wonderful girl for the past month, and I feel terrible about it, because I already have a girlfriend. He said "Kill yourself" and that if I "can't even do that right" then to get out of his house, because he disowns me. FML

Today, I was sitting in my room when my dad walked in to talk. He said I'm not the son he'd hoped for, and that he'd been let down as a father. He said I should change the way I am so that he could love me more. It was the longest conversation I've had with my dad in years. FML

I completely agree with him. It was 3 months. Not 3 years. I would have made the exact same point, just in a different way. But yeah, you really do need to grow up.

Your dad sounds like he has had his heart kicked in the ass too many times BUUUT he had a point, don't let this break up be the one that destroys you. I know feelings can grow and fester faster than what we expect, but for next time have this be a lesson that sometimes you have to keep grounded.

As sucky as it is to hear it, deep down you should know he's right. When my dad said that to me after a 1 year relationship I wanted to go nuts at him, now, I know he was right.
