Today, I was sitting on park bench eating a sandwich when suddenly the bench broke and I fell and broke my arm. FML

You may be able to simply file a claim for damages/expenses without a lawsuit if that's too messy, though a lawyer may be necessary for negotiating, etc. The city (or whoever owns the park) is liable for proper maintenance and construction of their facilities and any injuries that result. If they're smart they'll negotiate a settlement rather than having to sue, though you may get a bigger payday suing, it will be a hassle.

That sounds awful. I would at the least call or email someone from the city. Doesn’t hurt to try.
