Today, I got my first big promotion at work. Excited, I shared the news with my parents. My mom responded with, "That’s nice, dear, but your sister just got engaged," and hung up to go back to celebrating with her. FML

It totally stinks that you were blown off like that. You can celebrate with your friends for sure. (Not making excuses here.... Maybe your mother didn't view that as a big deal because she knows you are very capable, whereas your sisters engagement could be something she didn't expect would happen. It could be, that like with me, your sibling is a Saint in your mother's eyes.. which again totally sucks big green donkey parts. Again, Congrats on your promotion. do find some way and time to treat yourself, you earned it.
