Today, I bought a used car from a private dealer my parents had recommended. On my way home they called to tell me that their car broke down. They bought it last week from the same guy. FML

Cars do break down unexpectedly. The quality of the dealer will come from what comes next - Did the purchase include any warranty is the key question… In purchasing a used car, unless you are good at evaluating the condition of the car yourself you either need some kind of warranty (a real warranty from a reputable dealer and not a phone scam) or have a mechanic inspect the car… All that is the disadvantage of a used car - Used is cheaper but more risky.
