You want conflict? I'll give you conflict!

By anonymous - This FML is from back in 2011 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I tried to clock in at work, only to have the clock tell me I "wasn't scheduled", so I asked my boss what was going on. Turns out I was fired, and this was her way of avoiding conflict. FML

That's lame. She shouldn't be a boss if she doesn't have the balls to fire someone.

the manager needs to be more professional.. firing people is part of thier job...

Dumb bitch. That's just poor management. Either way, she has to tell you personally whether she simply omits you from the schedule, or even tells you over the phone. FYL, OP

I don't know American labour laws but in Canada if they call you in to work (failing to mention a lapse in a regular schedule counts as such) then they owe you at least 3 hours worth of pay whether they make you work or not. Also unless it's a brand new job then both parties need to give 2 weeks notice in order to terminate the employment (the reason being so that you can find a new job in that time and not have to lose half a month's pay which can really **** up low income groups).I imagine American laws should be close to this. If you threaten to sue she'll probably back down and reimburse you (since she's so afraid of conflict), though actually suing would be more laborious and potentially expensive than it's worth.

Complain to HR, that 'conflict' she avoided is communication, like giving you your notice and the reason for and terms of your dismissal. Also she publicly humiliated you by putting you through coming into work as usual and struggling to clock on, presumably in front of colleagues and only then telling you couldn't because you had been fired. Her behaviour was unprofessional and should be investigated. What have you got to lose? It doesn't sound like she would communicate enough to give you a good reference anyway! And the company might decide she is not the best person for her job, or in the best case scenario that her decision to fire you was not sound.

They fired you without informing you and without a given reason?? Sue the company!!!!!! You didn't ride/drive all the way to work for not being informative. Take them to court. This is wrong.
