Did it occur to you that perhaps they wanted to have the current employees introduce themselves to the new employees?

It's not a bad thing. If they don't know you exist, they won't put your name on a lay-off list or assign you to bullshit committees that suck up your time for no benefit. Anonymity is actually a good thing!
