Today, I went to a big job interview. Everything went well at first, with the interviewer being impressed by my CV. I was then interrogated over not having a Facebook account, and practically accused of being a criminal, because people without them "always have something to hide". FML

Well, what are you trying to hide? On a more serious note, if they're that suspicious, you might not want to work with them anyway.

Well, that sucks a tonne, Facebook is overrated anyway.

it's actually not such a bad idea these days to have a "professional" facebook. build it like it's a profile on linked-in, or some other job search site. that and plenty of bosses like to believe they are clever by stalking their employees FB's. then again... some really stupid employees have been caught doing stupid shit on FB,,,

After the shooting at the Batman movie premier there was a huge thing on the news about how people without Facebook are more likely to be anti social and end up killing people. Im assuming a lot of employers would prefer you had Facebook after seeing something that stupid... cuz you know everything you see on t.v. is real...

I feel your pain, its crazy the looks and amazement i get for not ever having a cultbook profile or ever using one.

Ugh companies that demand to see a candidate's facebook page can face some serious legal privacy issues from FB if they get word on that. OP next time ask what is the relevancy for them to see an fb page - as in, how does it connect specifically to the job. They want to know your behaviour - then tell them you'd be happy to provide them with professional references who would be happy to discuss your work ethic directly. If they keep pushing for a fb page, then you might want to reconsider on working there as they are already proving to be distrusting on their part.

Yes, we hear a lot about these concerns from employers. As stupid as it sounds, many are harboring such attitudes nowadays, even if only a handful would tell the job candidate about it. I personally favor saying something like "I prefer separating my personal and professional lives" but obviously, some jobs are closed for you then. My thought though is - if they are that big of idiots, do you want to work for them?

agree about passwords. It should not be tolerated. I am sure, legislature is coming up to prohibit them from asking for passwords the same way they are prohibited to ask you about your family situation or religion.

Another reason why I haven't deleted my facebook account yet. There are way too many news articles saying "People without facebook are psychopaths."

And if you don't get the job, write a letter to their boss or complaints department describing their unprofessional behaviour. Actually, you should do that anyway. Unless your job was for the social media industry

Wow, that is weird and suspicious in itself. You don't want to work for them.
