Today, I finally got the courage to tell my parents that I have been struggling with depression for 5 years and that they were a main reason for it... They responded "we're not the problem, you are". And the conversation ended with being kicked out of the house for "blaming your problems on us". FML

Many parents just love to put their pride before their kid's happiness. Don't listen to them. Things like that happen to a lot of people. Just try your best to make it on your own and don't even worry about them. It's shitty that you should have to do that but it'll make your life easier.

I feel for you, OP. I also struggled with parents who were abusive but thought they were picture perfect. Speaking with a professional about it is the key here.

There are options, make some calls, do some research, and reach out to those you can trust, because clearly your relatives are abusive and toxic, and would rather lay their blame anywhere else, but on their own shoulders. Trust me, since they cut themselves out of your life, things will get much better away from their toxicity.
