Alas, my wife instead decided we really needed to pay off the secret credit card debt she’s been hiding from me. Not only is the inheritance gone but so is an additional 3 grand from our savings. You have "our" savings with someone you're not married to or otherwise have a legal relationship with? Congratulations, you now have to recover money from someone you were in an unwritten partnership with. Maybe Washington state provides for that, probably not. Good luck.
