Today, my husband and I were fighting over money. As we were arguing, our 13 year-old daughter stole $250 dollars from my purse. FML

Merry Christmas from your brat of a child.

what does a 13 year old need 250 dollars for?!?!?!

Ground that child. No offense, but she is your daughter.

And they're doing an awful job parenting

If that was me, I would be so dead. Actually, I don't have the guts to steal money from anyone, ever.

No no no, you just have the RESPECT and MORALITY to not steal from anyone.

I think you found a major cause of your money problems.

call soical services and have the kid deported

...Do you know what deported means? Or Social Services, for that matter?

I am pretty sure OP's child is a natural born citizen. No reason for deportation.

I think you need to teach your kid how to behave. As a start, by not arguing in front of your kids.

It doesn't say they fought in front of her. If they were in front of her they'd probably have noticed her stealing the money.

I'm pretty certain they'd be too distracted to notice, which is why she took the time to do so then and not later.

You had $250 dollars just sitting in your purse?

I would assume that it was there for a reason. Perhaps OP was going to go out to do xmas shopping. Maybe it was for the weekly grocery trip. Maybe OP just hates interac and prefers to carry cash.

There is a whole plethora of reasons why OP could have $250 in her purse. I had that much on me yesterday while grocery shopping and buying last minute gifts

I don't carry cash on me at all, so for the OP to have such a large amount on them, and in such an easily accessible place, is surprising.

you can do a plethora of things with your debit card too. it doesn't matter to me why OP had cash, but they say cards are safer, especially during the holidays. if she was able to get it someone else could have too.

Yeah, 100: Cards are SO safe, considering that on Black Friday, people's information was subject to ha lets when they shopped at Target. Plenty of places don't even accept cards: a lot of liquor stores, every tattoo parlor I've been to, a lot of mom and pop shops in my town, plus you can't use anything but cash to buy lottery tickets. She also could have been giving cash as a gift. Cash is a lot easier to budget than using cards. Don't be so quick to judge, the point of the FML is not that she was carrying cash (which is perfectly normal to do,) it's that her own daughter stole from her.

Were subject to hackers* Also around the holiday it's easier to carry cash on you, because I know at my old job our machines went down sometimes when we were slammed. That's also happened at a few places around me through the years. They'll put huge signs up on the doors and stuff that say that they can't accept cards at that time. My mom always keeps cash on her, since we only have one debit card and the credit card is only for emergencies. It's not at all uncommon.

tl;dr. but from the first line i read, when you notice your card is missing you call and cancel it. you can dispute charges. there's plenty of channels you can go through to protect yourself. someone steals your cash that's that.. heads up, when you reply to a comment and *try* to show them up, don't write a novel.

I'm sorry if your narrow mind couldn't comprehend something longer than two sentences. They don't take your card, they take your number. Which is something you can't notice missing.

108 - If you actually read their comment, you'd know they weren't talking about physical cards getting stolen, but about the national breaking news of hackers getting into Target's customers' information for about a month's span. And then about those hackers selling information on the black market. Banks are canceling customers' cards and sending new ones with new pins for those who shopped at Target in that time period; I got mine the other day. Also, it's incredibly difficult to dispute charges on a DEBIT card. You're thinking of a credit card. It takes a long time to prove and dispute charges on a debit card.

I was about to say that she may have done that so your husband wouldn't steal it from you and that she may give it back, but nobody ever does something that nice anymore :/ anyway, FYL, you don't deserve that
