Public menace

Today, my dad is too old to drive, period, and yet while I was at work my wife thought it was a good idea to let him try her new Mercedes, which by the way I bought and insured. He used the accelerator like he was driving a shitbox Nissan and destroyed our local kebab shop's big front window and door. FML

Tough situation. I am betting that Dad put a lot of pressure or begging into letting him drive wife's Mercedes because I just can't see her just volunteering the car keys to her Father In Law if she knew he wasn't a good driver... OP, thank goodness the car was insured and apparently no one was seriously injured. Yes it will cost the deductible on the insurance and may result in getting your rates raised. But I doubt that either you or wife will allow Dad the keys ever again... It's tough when a parent is no longer competent to do the things they once were capable of. It could be shitty reaction time from age, or the onset of dementia. One place I lived, a neighbor had a parent living with them who was no longer competent to drive but didn't want to admit it. In my case they knocked over my mailbox and they had to take the keys away from the elderly parent.
