It sucks that you lost your best friend, and fyl for that, but the fact that you "tried to get out of the friendzone" makes me think you deserved it just a little bit. Just because you're their friend for so long doesn't mean you get automatic access. YDI if you've been dogging them about it for a long time, but that's just an assumption and I'll give you the befinit of the doubt and say fyl.
