You don't specify what kind of vessel your family friends were in. I presume it was a boat of some kind of the paddle board people were scared. In which case they can learn to give way to the more fragile instead of insisting on their right of way.
You're family is stupid if you operate a boat and don't know the rules of the road. A Vessel Under Sail or Not Under Power. A vessel under sail as well as other watercraft that are not powered, — such as canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, etc. — have the right of way over powered-vessels. YDI
