Don't take your eye off the ball

By armybrat - 10/07/2009 00:19 - United States

Today, I took a nap while babysitting my neighbor's kids for the day. I was woken up by an obnoxious sound, only to find the youngest kid holding scissors in one hand, a pony tail of hair stuck down in his shorts, jumping around like a horse. Oh, and a semi-bald patch on the back of my head. FML

Same thing different taste

Bedtime

By kids shouldnt have hard sports equipment - This FML is from back in 2016 but it's good stuff - Australia - Woodville

Today, I was knocked unconscious by the 10 year-old I was babysitting because it was his younger sister's bedtime and he didn't want her to go. When I came to, their mother was screaming at me for sleeping on the job. In the middle of the kitchen floor. I lost a job and gained a killer headache. FML

umm, don't fall asleep when you should be watching children... duh

Don't nap while babysitting. You got off cheap. The kid could have got hold of a lighter and decided to play barbeque with the couch. You're paid to watch them. Sleep on your own time.

That's what you get for falling asleep when your supposed to be watching the little bastards.

Let's go over the facts... -YOUNGEST kid (so there is more than 1) had access to SCISSORS (no doubt he was running with them too) while you were SLEEPING (don't worry, you have the ability to have eyes in the back of your head and the ability to not need to open your eyes either) Our decision...... ( drumroll ) BABYSITTER OF THE YEAR MATERIAL!

Whether you're being paid or not, when you agree to watch kids it takes the same level of responsibility, and you shouldn't be sleeping.

You fell asleep while you were supposed to be watching the kids. Any way you spin it, it's your fault. YDI.

If he/she thought they were asleep because it was late enough, I can see him/her falling asleep, but hopefully it wasn't during the day. Still sucks though.

Even if you deserved it, that still sucks

I'm surprised no one is calling BS here.... Have you ever tried to cut a pony tail of hair?? It is NOT easy. Certainly something a little kid would not be able to do to a sleeping person without waking them up. She's totally lying.

Yes. And it's pretty easy if you're not using kiddy scissors...

an intact ponytail is NOT easy to cut. especially one bound tight enough to play with afterward. otherwise, there would be hair everywhere.... the story is BS

Who the hell made you the expert in ponytail cutting? Do you make a habit of going around cutting off various pony tails? I cut my mates off when he was passed out, with a sharp pair of kitchen scissors, no problem. Shut the hell up.

I'm a stylist dumbass.... ever hear of Locks of Love??? I cut ponytails quite often.

A stylist makes a habit of loping of ponytails in one snip? Yeah right. You sound like a pro stylist to me... or you know, just someone who is full of shit and realises they're on the internet and can make believe they have whatever job they think will make them sound most knowledgeable on the subject they're running their mouth off about at the time.

Locks of Love is a charitable organization that makes wigs for young cancer patients. If you want to donate your hair, you go to a STYLIST to get your hair cut at the appropriate length. I am one of the only stylists who offers this service in my area. Sorry buddy - I cut ponytails all the time. For a small child to be strong enough to cut someones ponytail, leaving a BALD SPOT all while the person is sleeping is extremely unlikely. It's common sense, above all else. common sense.... try it - it's nice.

Yeap and like I said, you sound someone who is full of shit and realises they're on the internet and can make believe they have whatever job they think will make them sound most knowledgeable on the subject they're running their mouth off about at the time. I'm sure if someone's doing a neat job, it probably takes them more than one snip, but it took me two snips with a sharp pair of kitchen scissors to take my mates hair pony tail off, and I'm pretty sure a kid isn't going to have much of a problem cutting through the hair of someone while they're asleep.

so, were you a little kid when you cut your friends hair? or was this a dumb drunken stunt? Little kids aren't coordinated enough with scissors. You're an idiot troll who's arguing for fun. Google 'Locks of Love' so you know what I'm talking about. It's obvious that you're not from the US.

mobius8 you ARE an idiot, she does know what she's talking about. I've donated to locks of love and the stylists who do it do cut your hair off in a ponytail. And even with their well maintained and very sharp shears they don't get them off that easily. So grow up and quit being a jerk!

If the OP is blond or another light haired type - it is entirely possible for it to look bald. I know my boyfriend has dirty blond hair, thin as well - and is constantly joked at about how he looks like he is losing his hair at certain angles. :o

How does me googling Locks of Love prove you work for them, or that cutting through a pony tail requires more than two snips? No I'm not from the US (thank god) and obviously you are if you are stupid enough to think getting someone to google an organization will prove you work for them, I'm not arguing for fun. You're the one that came in here calling fake. I'm just saying it's entirely possible to cut someones ponytail off in a couple of snips and that I have, and regardless, the kid had the entire time she was asleep. Of course kids are coordinated enough with scissors to cut off some hair. Just about every parent I know has a story about their kid giving themselves a self hair cut at some point. Perhaps you were just as retarded as a child as you are as an adult, but that doesn't mean that's the norm.

Mobius... considering you, yourself, actually thought it was a good idea to cut someones hair off while sleeping only proves your level of intelligence... so you should really just stop making yourself look like a bigger asshole. I think this story is, as told, completely fabricated. I don't doubt that the kid cut her hair.... but the entire ponytail to the scalp? no way. guess what? it's OK that you don't agree with me. you don't have to. *pats mobius8s head*

lil_lucy23 for a "stylist dumbass" (your words not mine) you're pretty smart... I think this story is bullshit too. I've cut off hair that was bound in an elastic band before and that isn't an easy thing to do at all, it takes a lot of cutting with sharp scissors and you would certainly feel it. Also, unless the hair was loosely bound the kid would have cut away the hair on the other side of the elastic band and the hair would have fallen in a free heap, not something the kid could be whipping around playing with. If it was loosely bound, she wouldn't have a bald spot, just short hair. If the hair was so tight it left a bald spot after the cut, the op would not have been able to have slept through the cutting unless the little shit had slipped her a roofie (Rohypnol).

Yeap, because drinking with my friends and getting a mate back has anything to do with my IQ. You said a kid couldn't cut the ponytail off. Not that you didn't think it would be to the scalp. I'm sure she didn't mean that entirely literally, but everyone gets the idea. There's a patch in the back of her head where she's practically bald. Retard.

it has EVERYTHING to do with your IQ. get over yourself.

So after changing your argument to the kid not being able to cut it off, to the kid not being able to cut it neatly at the scalp, you've realized you can't defend your point by claiming on the internet you have a job that makes you an expert, and are going to fall back on saying relatively harmless pranks high school mates play on each other is indicative of IQ? Pretty sure your inability to follow through with a logical argument or type like someone who has finished high school is far more indicative of your IQ, or lack thereof.

you're the one who started with the ad hominem attacks... not me. stop trying to spin it. move on with your life. again, you don't have to agree with me. it's ok.

Actually, you resorted to childish name calling throwing around big words like "dumbass" to support your argument, right before you changed your story from "a kid couldn't cut a ponytail off" to "it couldn't cut a patch close enough to the scalp to give her a literal bald patch". Sorry you tried to sound like you knew what you were talking about and failed, but I suggest you take your own advice and move on now.

I didn't change my story... I never changed my story. I based my original (unchanging) opinion on what the FML actually said (imagine that). Said the kid was using the ponytail as a prop, it happened in her sleep and she had a bald spot. Based this info, and my knowledge (and yes, I'm a stylist... if I were going to lie about my profession on the internet... It wouldn't be hairdresser. I'd come up with something much more exciting. physician, perhaps?), the likelihood of a child cutting a ponytail that would yield those results, is extremely unlikely. The FML is a fabrication. That's all I ever said. You're the one who won't let this go. now, I'm not sure why you feel compelled to continually attack me, my profession and my intelligence for having this opinion.... but it's getting old. So, be sure to continue attacking me... I cannot wait for the next round!!! :D

No. In your first post you said the kid wouldn't have been able to cut it off, and that the FML was BS, not a "fabrication" as your claiming now. It's not till your 4th post you say anything about the bald spot, and I'm pretty sure most people would read what the OP wrote as practically a bald spot, where there is pretty much no hair left, not, shaved clean to the scalp bald. Exactly, you could claim to be a physician. But it wouldn't make you an "expert" in pony tail cutting and so wouldn't help your misguided opinion, so it wouldn't make any sense to say that, would it. Plus, you might have to work a little bit harder to back up your profession claim than saying "google this organisation for proof i work for them". Insult your intelligence? Perhaps you haven't been reading any of this. Would certainly make sense from your idiotic replies. As I pointed out above, you were the one who started the oh so mature name calling with "dumbass". And no where have I insulted your profession. And you didn't make this post as an opinion. You wrote it as fact. You said "this story IS BS" not "I THINK this story is BS". Very big difference. Judging by your complete lack of ability to respond relevantly and awful reading comprehension perhaps you are more of an expert on what a child can and can't do than I thought, but not for the reasons you've given. It's entirely possible for a kid to cut through a pony tail. Asides from everything else, the following fact makes your opinion void - negative results don't prove a positive result can't exist, but a positive result does prove positive results can exist. I have cut through my friends pony tail, as I said, in two snips, meaning it has happened and is possible. Most people know a kid coordinated with scissors to cut their own hair (usually horribly, but still).

By "stand by it" you mean "cannot defend it in any way whatsoever but still feel the need to have the last post", and alrighty then.
