Denial
Today, my mom took me to an AA meeting because she said I needed help. I have never tried alcohol in my life, and told them this. I was then harangued by the "instructor" because apparently one of the signs of alcoholism is denial. FML

Today, I had to confess to my mother that I was too hungover to take her to her AA meeting. FML
Today, my alcoholic mother decided to finally check herself into rehab. She did it while drunk, and flirted with the front attendant. FML
Today, I was feeling sick and ended up throwing up as soon as I got home. My mother's first question was an accusatory, "What have you been drinking?" I was returning from the AA meeting I have been attending for over a month. I go because I'm afraid I'll become an alcoholic like her. FML
Today, my once-alcoholic mom told me that she would sell me for a shot of vodka. FML
Today, as usual, my mom got shitfaced and started berating me for something. This time, it was for missing a therapy appointment. Not only am I unable to drive, it was her appointment. For her alcoholism. FML
Today, my parents staged a family intervention and gave me the grandest bollocking I've ever experienced in all my 22 years of life. They did this because my sister showed them a photo of me jokingly posing with three bottles of Bud Light at a party. Apparently, I'm an alcoholic in denial. FML
Today, at dinner, I accidentally let it slip that I'd taken a small sip of alcohol a few years ago and hated it. My extremely strict parents are now trying to get me into rehab. FML
Today my mother met my in-laws for the first time. She had been an alcoholic and had us sent to foster care 15 years ago. My husband told his parents this behind my back a while ago. When they asked her about it, she denied everything. His entire family now thinks I lie for attention. FML
Today, my mom left the house in the morning, leaving me alone. I called and I got no answer. Hours later, she finally answers one of my calls and tells me that she'd been in an AA meeting all this time. Happy, I tell her to come home. She came home drunk. FML
Today, I confronted my mom about her drinking problems. After I blurted everything out, she completely denied it. She did this as she was drinking a huge cup full of vodka. FML

Tell the " instructor" that they have a problem with alcohol. Then tell her what she said to you about being in denial.

Except that the instructor probably is an ex-alcoholic and so will likely admit a problem. The point is that it's all addicts together.

To me it seems like she's underage, just because the mother took her there and it doesn't seem like she was able to just walk out. I think the mother might really be paranoid about what teenagers do and wanted to make sure her kid would get help to stay away from it all. It's just very odd for her to do so when you have never touched it before, something must have made it seem like you have...even if its just that your friends have.

I don't understand where she would get an idea like that in the first place. If you've never had alcohol then you wouldn't have any in your fridge (unless you're married), and you wouldn't be drinking in front of her. Maybe alcoholism runs in the family and she just wants to make sure you're okay.

Spend about a week constantly following your mom around. When she sees you're not drinking, hopefully she'll realize she was mistaken, and stop badgering you! (She might also let it go just to get rid of you!)

Shouldn't denial be the first sign that you DON'T have a problem?
