Today, at 2 in the morning, a noisy work crew started up in the parking lot next to my apartment. What were they doing at that ungodly hour? Installing a light that now shines right into my window. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, the couple with three noisy toddlers in the apartment above mine finally moved out. A couple with a non-stop crying newborn moved in. FML
Today, I woke up to a glorious sunrise, fresh coffee, and a bleached lawn. My neighbors on both sides have constantly fought with each other since before I even moved in, which I guess explains the note taped to my window saying, "Pick a side." FML
Today, I showed up for my first shift in my new night job; I now work at an apartment complex during the day and at a gas station at night. It turns out that our biggest problem tenant in the former happens to be my boss in the latter. FML
Today, just like every morning this month, I woke up, put on my clothes, looked out my window, and was pointed at by a man in a ninja outfit on my neighbor's roof. The police still can't find him. FML
Today, I almost got fired from work because a customer complained that I "threw up gang signs" at him. I was blocking the sun from my eyes. FML
Today, I woke up to a broken car window and a text from my ex that read, "Before you ask me, the answer is yes." FML
Today, I was walking out of my front door in the town where I intern. I live alone and know no one. As I'm locking the door, I see a golf ball wedged between my mat and step. I notice that there's writing on it so I pick it up to read, "You look hot when you sleep." FML
Today, I woke up next to my roommate staring in horror. She said I was singing and farting in my sleep. Loudly. FML
Today, my car got keyed because I was parked in a handicapped parking spot. I'm handicapped. FML
Today, I was pulled over by a cop. He told me one of my lights was busted, and I couldn't help but point out that one of his was out too. He said, "Thanks, I'll get that fixed right away." then gave me a ticket. FML

Yeh but generally the public benefit will override what is normally considered a private nuisance. Might be different in the USA though.

Ouch. Sucks to be you. But I dealt with the same thing, except it was a neighbor who put up these huge Christmas lights, and had Christmas music playing until two in the morning, not the soft kind but rocking around the christmas tree techno rock metal remix. We cut his lights, he called the neighborhood watchdogs and they just told him to have a better holiday spirit. Now how does this help you? It doesn't. But i hope you realize someone understands. You could always smash the light when no one is around with like a bb gun.

I'm the original writer. And it actually happened about 5-6 years ago (I fudged for the sake of the site's format). Thanks to everyone (with varying degrees of politeness) who suggested opaque curtains, blinds, etc. That is what I ultimately did. I repositioned my bed, and used some nice metal blinds from IKEA. The personal inconvenience aside, what pissed me off about it was that, as the local planetarium director, I was one of the community's foremost proponents of light-pollution awareness. And I was powerless even to keep my next-door neighbor from lighting themselves up like a prison yard. Anyway, I left that apartment a long time ago.

This happened to me over the summer. They installed a light that directly shines into our apartment. It was supposed to light up the alleyway from the parking lot into the side door. Unfortunately for us when we walked there at night, it stopped working. Fortunately for us when we were trying to sleep, it stopped working.
