Today, I found out that my son and his stepdad have bonded over covering for each others' misbehaviour so I don’t find out. Between them they have kept it secret that my son sneaks out at 1am to see his secret girlfriend, that my husband lost £500 gambling, that my son scratched the car… The list goes on. FML

You should probably think long and hard why your son trust your step dad more about his personal relationship. And why your husband feels the need to hide things from you. There seems to be a major trust issue there

Who says there's any trust between the son and his step dad? They may have learned each other's secrets some other way, and using them as leverage. Besides, kids keep secrets from their parents all the time. And the husband will have kept his secret out of shame. It's not a lack of trust, it's a lack of respect. And the problem lies with the son, who treats OP like an idiot, and the husband, who didn't turn to OP when his addiction cost him a decent chunk of money.
