Today, I was offered a "rust and accident free“ used car at the dealership. By chance, I managed to track down the previous owner, who was quite surprised I was asking about it, saying, "That one was totaled, I thought it had been scrapped!” FML

I bet this happens all the time. My insurance totaled out my car after a wreck, but it was still perfectly drivable. It has some front end damage largely cosmetic but hard to repair because of its unibody design.

A car being Totaled doesn’t mean it’s destroyed. It’s just the repairs would cost more then what it’s worth which is common as the vehicle gets older. often times you can get a huge discount on a salvage title car that was properly repaired.

So you managed not to buy a bad car. Why is that not a good thing?

dealership is in the wrong for not handling the paperwork correctly. OP could've saved tons of money if there was a rebuilt title to it
