The customer is always right! You need to learn to hijack a conversation. Anything the customer says you make it about you and then launch into a meandering rant.
I am so confused about this complaint lol. Is 90 too much? Too little? Is OP offended that the customer had kids or an ex?
I think the 90 pounds means the OP had a lot of items to ring up and is new at the job. I'd think with food prices as they are, getting to 90 pounds wouldn't take too long.
I have often said that we all Need a job like fast food or cashier to learn things that we may not like doing. I learned I didn't want to work fast food and I didn't want to be an auto mechanic. Use this to learn some soft skills and work towards a job or career you DO want.

Show it anywayWorking for the Samaritains ? Piece of piss. Try working for a drug cartel, they chopped my dad's head off with a chainsaw!! (Do you see how this sort of comment is pointless now?)
While I'm sorry for you having to suffer such a traumatic loss, that's a rarity and one hell of an extreme. Those of us in the customer service industry will most likely never have to face something like that.
