im very sorry friend. Come on over, we'll have some turkey stew
It's not like you couldn't have asked one of your local family members for an invite for Thanksgiving. At least you were close enough to celebrate with them had you wanted to. I work overnight, so I went to a pizza shop when I got off work yesterday to see when it opened, saw it said 11am. Waited until 11am, went to the pizza shop and they were closed. I ate noodles and went to bed then went to work and wiped butts, push pills and get harassed by drug seeking patients all night all while having more patients than legally safe and not enough staff to help keep said patients safe. It's ok... The hospital gave us free a free Thanksgiving Meal from the cafeteria... The cafeteria closed early...2pm. My shift started at 7pm. I ate noodles for my lunch break. My break just ended
It wasn’t a competition
No matter who makes the decision to break up or get divorced, the aftermath is painful. And holidays are particularly difficult when you are depressed or hurting. We have all these memories of the good holidays and hopes and dreams of “perfect” holidays and that makes our reality all the more painful when it doesn’t measure up. You are human and you are hurting. Most humans need other people in their lives, we are deeply social creatures. Things will get better. The pain will get better and you will find another person, maybe even have another family while still being a father to your children. But nothing comes automatically. You have to re-learn the dating skills, but you can do that. For now, Thanksgiving is over but Christmas is coming up. Talk to members of your family or friends and let them know you would like to be part of their celebration. Someone you know will gladly give you an invite if it works with theirs and your schedule. Then put on a good face, bring a hospitality gift and go easy on the liquor - Nobody enjoys being around a sloppy drunk trying to drown their sorrows. Things will get better. It takes time and effort but you can find new happiness.
Hope the crab was good at least.
It was nice and quiet though, right? Had a beer or two and nobody complained about anything. Next year'll be better.
