I think they just made it that much more funnier because they decided to roll down the window. I think it's more awkward if you start walking away and you notice someone was in the car, but they just kept on looking without doing nothing lol

I just tell myself I will never see any of those people in my life again so the embarrassment doesn't matter. Makes me feel less anxious in my life.

Did you greet them politely? That's the most sensible thing to do when meeting new people.
