Today, my son wouldn't stop ripping items & price tags off of the shelves at the grocery store, no matter my parenting method... Until he picked up a quart of yogurt by the lid, while the bottom & contents fell all over the floor... At least now, the "remember the yogurt" method works. FML

My mom would threaten to never take me anywhere again and leave me at home forever if I didn't behave. Somehow that worked better than the beatings. Give it a try!

Kids usually end up learning if they embarrass themselves. If he starts up again I do have an idea. My aunt used to do this when her kids acted up at the store. She would give them warnings but if they didn't listen she would simply leave her groceries there, pick up her kids and take them home. She's left 100's of dollars of groceries in her cart and just left with the kids. It worked to because kids like grocery shopping with their parents. She only had to do it a couple of times before they got the hint. OP I hope your son has stopped now, however it's kind of a funny way to get him to learn his lesson.

Funny how the lesson sticks better when they embarrass themselves.

Your child needs to be disciplined better, and it doesn't sound like you know what you're doing. When your son is being a little asshole in a supermarket you pick him up and leave. He'll only learn if practice follow through.

don't have to be a dick about it. no parent knows what to do in every single situation. it's just as much a learning process for the parents as it is the kids.

Let him pick one item for himself (a magazine, cereal or the like) and let him carry it around the store. His attention will be focused on that item and his hands will be full.

My mom would always get me and my sibling those mini cartons of goldfish crackers. Worked like a charm!
