Today, my cute coworker begged me to cover his shift tomorrow, and told me that he wanted to take me to dinner to make up for it. I was very excited because I've been crushing on him for a long time. I later overheard him tell his friend that he didn't plan on showing up for our dinner. FML

You've been had! Tell the same coworker, within earshot of your crush, that you don't plan on showing up for his shift.

then you don't plan on showing up for his shift.

then don't cover his shift. simple

Cover the shift, obviously- you could get in trouble otherwise, and you'll be making some extra cash anyway. As for the "date", go out and have fun with friends or something, and the next time you see him, tell him you're sorry for "forgetting" about it. Then proceed to tell him what an awesome time you had. He'll be hurt or jealous, and then probably try to get you to go out with him again- of course, this time, you can either go out and enjoy yourself on his tab, or you can tell him you're not really interested (which you shouldn't be, at this point- he's an asshole!)

you should have kicked him in the peter infront of all his lil gay friends. boys are lameee

it's alright if he's that much of a jerk.. he's not worth your time. PEACE&LOVE
