Today, I went to get Lasik eye surgery. Beforehand, they give you an anxiety control pill because you're conscious during the operation. Guess who is immune to the pill and now has to get checked for anxiety disorders before rescheduling the surgery. FML

That sucks, OP, but if it helps at all, I'm right there with you! I had Lasik last year and also discovered that Ativan does nothing for me (we even doubled the usual dosage). Thankfully, the surgeon and nurses were great, and talked me through the whole thing ("Now we're going to do _____ thing. Another 10 seconds, 9... 8... 7...) Would having them do that for you help at all?

Anxiety pills weren’t ever mentioned when I get lasik. It’s a bit trippy looking at the light show from the laser but it’s literally painless. I had no problem and I couldn’t even put contacts in when I still needed glasses.

Ummm I’ve had lasik and there was no offer of anxiety pills, just numbing eye drops and some non-opioid pain meds after the procedure. Sounds like you were just freaking out and couldn’t handle the procedure.

During the consultation appointment, the consultant should have told you the name of the pill. I was told that it is quite mild, so it does not have much of an effect. I decided to proceed with the procedure without it (due to the mild effect and it increases the pre-op time) and I must say, the anticipation part is the worst. I was quite nervous, but once the procedure started, I started to calm down since you are not allowed to move and I was in good hands (requested for one of the two founders to be the surgeon). It sounds silly, but at one point of the procedure, I found it so cool that I swear I said, "This is so cool!"
