I have the same problem, and so do a lot of survivors of abuse and bullying, be it from so called family or friends, or from peers. Unfortunately, it's hard to overwrite the damage done by it, especially alone. If being stuck "on alert" is becoming too stressful or draining to do, talk to a psychiatrist about it and see if medication and therapy could help.
