Today, I explained to my boss what clickbait is and why it's bad practice to use it when writing online. After my explanation, she ordered me to go ahead with it, saying it's "exactly what we need". This person is the marketing communications director for a major multinational company. FML

I mean...clickbait is likely to drive more traffic to your stuff...it's frowned upon almost as bad etiquette though.

yet we continue to fall for even tho we know better. shame on us really

It sucks because it clearly does work. But if your only way is to trick people then that is all you do, that is who you are. Unfortunately ethics are really used when making business decisions

when I read this the first time I was all 'yeah I agree! there's such a lack of ethics in business practice.' But then I made the mistake of rereading it because something caught eye and now I'm like 'wait. what?' *scratches head*. by the fourth time I had convinced myself I must be tripping, it's 2006, and I am a prophet for I have seen 10 years in the future.... so I bring a message to all. beware the mega rich oompa loompa with bad hair.

Clickbait isn't really a bad thing it's just ******* annoying, your goal is to get people to see and thus want your product and as long as you don't falsely advertise it I don't see anything that's "bad" in practice. Annoying yes

From a business standpoint, clickbait is an excellent tactic. Even if it does drive the majority of us crazy, there's always a large number of people who will click it.

uhm, you realise Clickbait works right ?

News flash: click bait was invented by a marketing manager.

Sadly, if consumers hate it, but it still makes money, companies will keep doing it
