Today, at 2:30 in the morning, my brand new fish tank cracked and spilled ten gallons of water into my carpet. FML

This is my FML and YES THE FISH ARE OKAY. Well, mostly. It drained too quickly for me to save the carpet, which has since been ripped up to let the subfloor dry, but not too quickly for me to get them out into cups. My betta was incredibly stressed and grumpy, and the catfish were in a panic and huddled together. The snail didn't seem to notice anything was going on at the time, but has since passed away, I think from stress. RIP Snailbert. I tried about 8 different treatments to dry the carpet and none of them really worked, so I'm gonna have to replace the carpet, I think. The ceiling of the floor below is also pretty fucked from the water damage. I have no idea why the tank failed, it was on a level surface, average price for an aquarium starter kit of that size, and was only about three or four months old, but I ran out and bought an emergency tank as soon as the fish store opened and made sure to get quality this time. Still, as a broke-ass college student, this was not an expense I expected to have.

The question on everybody's mind is..... are the fish okay?

On the bright side, if it is new then it was obviously faulty so the manufacturers may well be paying for that carpet.

I was wondering how cheap the tank was, but sure, I'll go along with your thing.

Nah, the question on my mind is wondering if I have any cheese left in my fridge.

Was Nemo there? Theres people looking for him

At least it wasn’t 100 gallons

Umm why is this a FML nothing bad happened just some water, did it flood the apt below or start a fire or have a slip and fall, nope nothing lame FML 😴

Yes, nothing bad at all. Just some water damage that can lead to mildew or mold and would cost thousands of dollars to fix.

Yeah man it was just like spilling a glass of water. Totally the same. Definitely wasn't dramatic at all to have to spend a shit ton of money on a wet-dry vacuum and a heat gun and a new tank, then having to rip up the carpet. And the gigantic water stain on the ceiling of the floor below. Oh! And let's not forget the fact that my pets would've all died if I'd woken up even twenty minutes later, and that one of them still got so stressed out he did die. You're right man, that's not an FML at all. Silly of me for posting it, really :)

@Charlie Given, you’re an idiot. Of course this an FML for OP. I’ll let you try to figure out why...

I'm so sorry to hear that. RIP Snailbert. I'm glad the others made it quite well considering.
