That sucks

Today, I set out to clean the house while my wife was at work. Starting with the vacuum cleaner, it suddenly started making a strange noise and emitting a burning smell. Panicking, I unplugged it and noticed one of our toddler's socks had been sucked into it, causing it to overheat. I managed to extract the sock, but now our expensive vacuum cleaner is toast. FML

Usually sucking up a sock for just a few seconds won't destroy a whole vacuum. Are you sure it's completely destroyed? There may be some parts that you can replace hopefully for less than you expect. Replacing belts on vacuum cleaners is commonplace.

Ive done that a lot of times, and almost every time, it just needs a new belt, which is usually just a 10-15 minute $5 fix

That doesn't suck. Your fancy-ass vacuum cleaner, that is. It's the opposite of the answer that applies to 99.75% of stories here. Yes, about 1 in 400 stories involves a vacuum cleaner malfunction.
