Scarcity

Today, after several hours, two pharmacies, several bus rides, $20, and many phone calls, I returned home. Guess who still doesn't have a glucose monitor? Yup, I have to go do this all again tomorrow. FML

I suggest calling your nearest hospital and asking for the Endocrinology team; they very likely have extra glucose monitoring devices. Reps will hand them out like candy on visits and they may very well just give it to you

I mean, if you were out looking for one in the first place, I would have called all the places first before travelling to each location. As well for OP and anyone else in the US, made sure they took your insurance if needed. This is all assuming you were just trying to buy one and you weren't lied to over the phone about stock. Pharmacies have held devices and braces for me when I call in, especially ones that I have to drive a bit to get to.

Just go to your nearest Walmart and get one. That’s what I did when I lost the one that came with my insulin pump

Order it online. Problem solved.

Probably needed one somewhat immediately, or needs one through insurance? Only pharmacies will bill insurance for it if it's a "prescription". Even if it's an OTC item.

Go to Walmart you can get a ReliOn monitor, strips, lance and replacement needles and even alcohol wipes for about $30. You can order online and have it shipped so no public exposure
