Resistance

Today, I found out that the compact fluorescent light bulbs that I use to save money AND help the environment were too high of a wattage to put in my lamps. I've been doing this for years and completely missed the warning label on the inside of the lampshade that says that the lamp is only good for up to 40 watts. FML

Most CFLs are actually far less than 40 watts, especially the ones you put in lamps. They're just labeled as equivalent to a certain wattage of incandescent, but they don't use anywhere near that much. But they use more power than LEDs of the same brightness and also contain mercury and are often recycled improperly or just thrown out, so they're not super great for the environment.

Since nothing has caught fire, there's not a real problem. When the next CFL burns out, switch to LEDs. Or if you really want sustainable, renewable light, use a whale-oil lantern.

Didn't the late Grant Imahara prove that LED bulbs are the way to go? Watch more MythBusters, and you'll save pennies. You'll also piss yourself every time Tory gets hurt.

I am very glad that you are still alive to tell us the story. You must be blessed by God Himself. Go treat yourself to a lottery ticket and a bunch of new lamps, just to be on the safe side.
