Today, my new antidepressants finally kicked in. I switched to them to try to control my anxiety. Turns out that the most common side effect, funnily enough, is nervousness. Guess I should've done more research. FML

Today, I started taking my anxiety meds. Without them I can't function because I'm constantly fighting off panic attacks, but with them I can't function because I get crippling headaches and heartburn and feel tired all the time. FML
Today, I recently started taking some antidepressants and they have been working really well for me, except for the fact that they have made me crap my pants twice now. Both times in public. FML

Today, I found out my anti-depressants are super-effective. So effective, they affect things they aren't even supposed to. Like my ability to pee. FML
Today, my anxiety decided to play a new trick: When I'm trying to go to sleep, I get anxious about having nightmares. It sure does wonders for my insomnia, which I've otherwise completely controlled. FML
Today, I had a anxiety attack about taking my anxiety medicine. FML
Today, I realized that acne is a major side effect of a medication I'm taking. The medication is to help me with my anxiety. The acne is creating more anxiety. And the more anxious I get, the more meds I need. And the more my face breaks out. FML
Today, I realized that I needed a new job when I had to take anti-anxiety medication before meeting with my boss. Last time we met, I had a panic attack. FML
Today, my psychiatrist prescribed Xanax. I thought that was a little extreme and that my anxiety wasn't bad enough for that. Within the next hour, I had 2 panic attacks. I guess I'm worse off than I thought. FML

There are meds that are specifically anti-anxiety (like Ativan). They are usually taken in combination with an SSRI (anti-depressant). I'm not a doctor or pharmacist, so I can't speak to what each med does or how they're different, but there are meds specifically for anxiety. I have generalized anxiety and have taken various combos of both over the years, which is the basis of my (admittedly weak) knowledge.

Personally, I don't know I'd recommend it to others. It works half decently for me, but I think it may be worsening my anxiety, and it's an extremely tough drug to taper down, too. It can also cause pretty significant nausea to start (though I had none). Different meds for different people - that's why OP needs to consult their doctor or possibly a pharmacist for advice.

OP - first of all, sorry to hear you are going through such a rough time. Psychological medications take some time to figure out since they can affect each individual differently. Try not to beat yourself up for not doing the research ahead of time - even if the medication you are on causes nervousness for others, it may not have the same effect on you. So even if you knew nervousness was a potential side effect from the beginning, you wouldn't know for sure whether or not it would affect you that way. Not too long ago, I went on an antidepressant that many people raved about and was supposed to boost energy too. Not only did it not give me any extra energy, it actually made me more depressed than I have been in ages (even after giving the medication 2 full months to take full effect). I feel for you OP because I know how hard it can be to get the right medication or combination. Talk to your doctor about the side effects and best of luck to you in getting it figured out. Hang in there!

Makes about as much sense as those asthma inhalers with the side effect "you may be more likely to die of an asthma-related death". If it makes you more likely to die from it, in what way is our treating it?

That was your doctors job to inform you. It's called informed consent. And when you picked up the medication from the pharmacy it was in the insert papers you would've had to move out of the way to get to the meds.
