Today, I found out one of my "friends" is “scared” to talk to me because I’m black. FML

And it seems most prospective commenters are reluctant to comment on this posting... I wonder why? ... OP, you are not responsible for race relations being a minefield nor is your friend. It is unfortunate that there is a very bad "ancient history" of slavery, a whole civil war over that, and the appalling "Jim Crow" era that followed soon after. I think it is important to treat each other as just people regardless of their skin tone or accent. But you might as well also acknowledge that there are careless things that one might say that open you up to criticism. And, the present political climate isn't helping much.

are you a preteen? are you in a small rural area that the only ethnicity is just one? that's the only reason I can think that someone would be scared to talk to you because interacting with someone one black is new to them. if they are actually your friend I would go up to them and talk to them about it. see why they feel that way. hopefully after they talk to you they will be fine and get over their fear

some of us don't have our phones glued to our face so most haven't seen the post yet. no one I'd reluctant lol

Minefield? I got called racist for stating the fact that humans evolved in the equatorial zone which means that the First (true) **** Sapiens were black and that white is a mutation (probably) caused by boffing the Neanderthals.

Let's see if I get banned for this. My question, are you sure that your "friend" is scared about you because you are black or might there be also other factors involved?
