Today, my girlfriend of three weeks found the engagement ring I tried to give to my ex. She started crying and said yes. FML

lentmarz tells us more.

The story behind this is that when I proposed to my ex, and she said no, I was devastated. I hadn't really gotten over her, but my family set me up and I went out with her to humor them. We had a nice night and had gone out several times since. As for the ring, the materials were worth about $4000 and I spent over 2 weeks smelting and hand designing it. I spent so much time on it, that it didn't feel right to sell it. Also, I have made the decision never to see her again. So yes, I ran.

On the plus side, if this is your master ring, you could make 9 more simpler rings, give them out to desperate girls, and tahdah! You'd have 9 ringwaifs!

Thanks for the follow up really glad to hear you got away from that crazy lol

Why did you keep it in the first place? Good luck defusing that bomb, OP.

Read OPs follow-up. He made it himself for 4000 dollars and got rejected. A person doesn't just put hard work, heart and soul into forging a ring and then get rid of it. It was of emotional importance to him. If I were proposing and got turned down, I'd keep the ring too.

151: I'm sure his future wife will love to hear the story about that ring... Nothing can possibly go wrong there. Pining over the girl that rejected him x years ago and settling for the new one while holding on to a memento of the one that got away.... Are you ******* nuts? In what world is that a good idea? Dude needs to sell it and get on with his life. A constant reminder of what you lost is a good enough reason to sell it... Let alone the future fall out.

#166 Try making something that costs you $4,000 and likely countless hours and then try getting rid of it like "Meh."

My parents got married only weeks after dating and they have been together for almost 21 years now. Quality over quantity. But if you're not ready, of course, just explain the misunderstanding to your girlfriend. Sounds like you two have a lot to discuss if she's ready without hesitation an you aren't.
