Today, I was driving home with my dad after buying a new truck. We were on the freeway and the engine wasn't revving up very much. My dad thought that something was wrong with my transmission, so he reached over to change gears. Most cars won't go into reverse at high speeds. Mine does. FML

Geez dude! 1. get a new Dad! 2. get a new truck - I presume something broke (or crashed) when Mr synapse changed gears for you? - For those asking, my take is: * the truck is (was) an auto; * it was revving low because it has a higher top gear than OP's Dad is used to (could easily be - truck is new - could have a 5 speed gearbox or Overdrive); * dipstick Dad decides truck must be in the wrong gear (FAIL - that would really only be a problem if the engine were revving too HIGH); * so dipstick Dad tries to shift to a higher gear; * instead of going from 4th to 5th, he goes from 5th to Reverse (via Neutral - I'm impressed...); * truck engine and/or gearbox puke 3 shades of brown and/or truck spins or rolls

from the wording of OP, the vehical transmission is a standard. "Manual transmissions have physical locks in the shift mechanism to make selecting reverse an active exercise. Barring lockout rings or pushing down on the stick shift, deliberately trying to select reverse while driving forward at normal speeds is basically impossible with a manual." in addition, from what the OP said, it would sound like there was already a problem to begin with.

it could also be that the engine was put in backwards this happened to my truck and it sucked having to get it put in the right way.

YDI for letting your dad touch your gear shift while you were driving. if you weren't then YDI for letting your dad drive when he doesn't know how to drive stick

this is bullshit.. the dad shouldnt be able to get to the gearshift to shift the gears in the first place.. you never let someone shift for you!! secondly, no automatic or manual car will switch gears with A) stepping on the brakes.. or B) stepping on the clutch.. so unless you to did this as a tag team, this is bullshit.. or your truck is brand new from 1950.. plus, it really doesnt do much, the car just dies because almost all automatic cars built after around 2002-3 (assuming new means at least last year) will simply "die" if you do this.. this is bullshit oooorrrr you deserve it for being an accomplice to stupidity

#63 is right. Your just stupid. If its an automatic, it wouldn't change gears until the break has been pressed. If its newer, it just wouldn't happen. It would just die. If its an older truck, standard, the engine would give. Youtube a video of it, going fast enough, your engine will legits explode. So, unless you bought a complete peice of crap and just ruined it. Your just a dumbass.

Your father must have really forced it into reverse. This seems fake.
