Today, after 4 months working at my job, everyone including the new intern has a lunch buddy or lunch group, except for me. My lunch partners are books. FML

If you sit alone with your nose buried in a book every day at lunch then you are likely giving off the impression that that is how you wish to spend your lunches. The others are likely just trying to be respectful by not disturbing you. Maybe you should try putting down the books and striking up a conversation.

You have to be a lunch buddy to have a lunch buddy. You can't just sit there and hope someone asks you -- you're going to have to ask people or be satisfied with your books.

I worked over a year at my last job. Only in the last month did I meet someone... then I was let go. Now at new job I enjoy having lunch with the Earl of Severn... oh wait, he is a guy in my book. Oh well. I feel ya.

That's honestly my biggest fear about going out into the real world

7 years here, someone managed to latch himself to me during lunch, I don't mind but still more comfortable alone.
